Makeup Revolution: The Matte Effect, Duo Face Sculpt, Pro Illuminate | REVIEW

January 27, 2016

I've never been a huge makeup obssessor. Don't get me wrong, I've worn it since I was 13 and have always loved experimenting with bright eyeshadows, but it's not until very recently that I've started to think about, and research, what I'm actually putting on my face.

Still, I ain't ballin' and there's no way I can afford high-end foundation, primer, concealer etc. on my student loan. Hell, I can barely afford food and Tesco Value vodka has now become a treat... Yep.

So when I stumbled across Makeup Revolution in Superdrug, I was pleasantly surprised at how little it costs. I took a chance on an eyeshadow palette that I completely fell in love with. This led me to having a wee look on their website and, £12 later, I had bought The Matte Effect Foundation (£2) in Ivory and the Professional Duo Face Sculpt & Illuminate kit (£10), which also came with three brushes.

I'll start with the foundation. It felt a little wet, and more runny that I thought it was going to be. Nether the less, I applied it with a foundation brush in soft, circular motions and it felt really silky on my skin. I set it with a L'oreal Paris Infallible 24 hour Matte pressed powder, which I absolutely love.
I was pleasantly surprised with how well the foundation matched with my skin, considering I bought it online. It is quite light and blended with my concealer really well. It also gave a medium to high coverage, and was really buildable.
I found it was quite yellowy, which is fine for me because I have a yellowy complexion, but it depends what tone of foundation goes better with your skin.
This little bottle promises up to 16 hours wear and, although I didn't expect it to last that long, I was disappointed with how many hours it did last. I nipped out the house for about an hour that day (it was raining as well, to be fair), and although it was still intact when I got home, it wasn't long until most of the foundation had come off. I also found it was super easy to remove with my cleanser, which I guess is good, but also shows how easily it can come off your face.
For £2, I really can't complain. For the time it stayed on, it did keep my face matte. I would use it if I was nipping out for a couple of hours and didn't need a long lasting matte foundation. It would also be good as a little bottle to keep in my handbag to top up with during the day, or to take on your travels.

The other product I bought was this cute little set containing the Duo Face Sculpt, a large duo bronzer and blusher, and the Pro Illuminate powder. I also got these three brushes to apply it with, which I found pretty impressive for the price. Most brushes in Superdrug cost more than this set alone so I was impressed with how well they worked.
They didn't pick up too much product and it was really easy to dust on both powders with each brush. The contour brush was really handy for being specific around my cheekbones, forehead and under the jaw. The bronzer is a really nice shade, quite light and not too warm and gives the perfect glow to my pale complexion. This also stayed put pretty well.
The other side of the Duo Face powder claimed to be a blusher, but it really didn't make much of a difference to me, as it was almost the same colour as my powder. It was useful for helping to blend the bronzer though.

Now, the Pro Illuminate powder, I absolutely love. I'm like a magpie when it comes to all things that sparkle, so this shimmery powder is perfect in my eyes.
I dusted some over my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose and a little on my forehead and I loved the way it made my face sparkle in the light. It really was illuminating and a really good quality considering the price!

I'm really enjoying the other Makeup Revolution products I have and will definitely be purchasing more from their range. Their eyeshadow palettes are a complete steal!
I hope you enjoyed my first real beauty post! Hopefully, there will be plenty more.
Be beautiful, always,
